Gather children in a circle and show pictures of different Native American homes. Ask them to describe what they see and notice about each home.
Explain how Native Americans built homes that matched their environment. Tepees were perfect for plains tribes who moved often, longhouses worked well for woodland tribes with lots of trees, and pueblos were ideal for desert regions with clay.
Children will create a model home representing one type of Native American dwelling using craft materials.
