📋 Ohio Homeschool Requirements

Ohio is considered very homeschool-friendly with minimal state oversight and multiple educational options. Families can choose from public school enrollment, chartered nonpublic schools, or home education with flexibility in approach.

📝 Notification

No notification to the state is required. Parents may choose to operate under a chartered nonpublic school or as an independent home educator.

📅 Attendance

900 hours of instruction per school year, with the school year defined as the period between July 1 and June 30 of the following year.

📚 Subjects

English language arts, geography, United States and Ohio history, national, state, and local government, mathematics, science, health, physical education, economics, fine arts (music, dance, drama, visual arts), and first aid safety and fire prevention.

✅ Assessment

Annual assessment required through standardized testing, written narrative by certified teacher, other equivalent assessment, or academic portfolio reviewed by certified teacher.

📁 Records

Portfolio of academic work samples and records showing subjects taught, activities engaged in, and academic progress (assessment results, attendance records).

💡 Additional Notes

Families may choose to join a chartered nonpublic school for additional support and oversight, or operate independently as home educators under Ohio Revised Code Section 3321.04.
