Observe plant growth differences with and without water

3

Appreciate God's design in plant life

Isaiah 44:3

For I will pour water on him who is thirsty, and floods on the dry ground. I will pour my Spirit on your descendants, and my blessing on your offspring.

  • Water
  • Two identical clear containers
  • Observation journal
  • Pencil
  • BibleMouse Science Observation Worksheet

Lesson Plan

1Opening (3 min)

Recall yesterday's lesson about plant parts. Ask child to name plant parts they learned.

💭 Review Question: What parts of the plant did we talk about yesterday?
2Teaching (5 min)

Introduce how water helps plants grow and stay healthy

📌 Key Talking Points:
  • Plants drink water through their roots
  • Water helps plants make food and stay strong
  • Without water, plants will get sick and die
💬 Discussion Questions:
  • Have you ever seen a plant that looks droopy?
  • What do you think that means?
3Activity: Water Experiment (6 min)
hands-on

Compare two plants - one watered, one not watered

📝 Instructions:
  1. Take two identical small plants
  2. Place each in a clear container
  3. Water one plant, leave other dry
  4. Mark containers with child's name
  5. Check plants daily in observation journal
  6. Draw what you see happening
🔄 Variations:

Simpler: Parent does most steps, child observes

Challenge: Child tracks daily observations independently

4Closing (3 min)

Review experiment setup and expectations

📝 Review Questions:
  • What do you think will happen to our plants?
  • Why do plants need water?

Coming up: Tomorrow we'll learn how plants also need sunlight to grow
