Lesson Plan

1Opening (3 min)

Welcome to today's BibleMouse science adventure! Let's remember how sounds are made by vibrations, just like we learned yesterday.

💭 Review Question: Can you show me how you made a sound yesterday?
2Teaching (5 min)

Today we're exploring high and low sounds - like how a tiny bird chirps high and a big drum goes low!

📌 Key Talking Points:
  • High sounds are squeaky and light
  • Low sounds are deep and rumbling
  • Different sizes make different sound pitches
💬 Discussion Questions:
  • What high sounds do you hear around you?
  • Can you make a high sound with your voice?
3Activity: Pitch Exploration Station (6 min)
exploration

Experiment with making different sound pitches using household items

📝 Instructions:
  1. Tap a pot with a wooden spoon - listen to its sound
  2. Gently tap water glasses with different water levels
  3. Stretch rubber bands and pluck them
  4. Ring bells or wind chimes
🔄 Variations:

Simpler: Focus on just two items to compare sounds

Challenge: Try to create a simple melody using different pitched sounds

4Closing (3 min)

God gave us amazing ears to hear all these wonderful sounds!

📝 Review Questions:
  • What was your favorite high sound?
  • What was your favorite low sound?

Coming up: Tomorrow we'll make our very own musical instruments in our BibleMouse curriculum!

  • Let child explore and experiment freely
  • Praise curiosity and exploration
🤔 Common Struggles:

Children might get confused between volume and pitch

👀 Signs of Understanding:

Child attempting to create different sound pitches

Extension Activities

  • Create a sound journal in BibleMouse Printables Library
