Lesson Plan

1Opening (3 min)

Welcome to today's BibleMouse math adventure! Let's review what we learned yesterday about patterns.

💭 Review Question: Can you show me the ABB pattern you made yesterday?
2Teaching (5 min)

Today we'll explore the difference between AB and ABB patterns. AB patterns repeat two colors, while ABB patterns repeat the second color.

📌 Key Talking Points:
  • AB pattern looks like red-blue-red-blue
  • ABB pattern looks like red-blue-blue-red-blue-blue
  • Patterns help us understand order and sequence
💬 Discussion Questions:
  • Can you spot the pattern?
  • Which pattern do you see?
3Activity: Pattern Sorting Challenge (6 min)
hands-on

Use beads to sort and create AB and ABB patterns

📝 Instructions:
  1. Take out your colored beads
  2. Create an AB pattern on one side of the tray
  3. Create an ABB pattern on the other side
  4. Sort the pattern cards into AB or ABB groups
🔄 Variations:

Simpler: Use only two colors of beads

Challenge: Create longer pattern sequences

4Closing (3 min)

Let's review our pattern discoveries!

📝 Review Questions:
  • What makes an AB pattern different from an ABB pattern?
  • Can you create a pattern for me?

Coming up: Tomorrow we'll explore numbers in a row and continue our pattern adventures!
