Philippians 3:13-14

Brothers, I don't count myself to have taken hold of it, but one thing I do. Forgetting the things which are behind, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 3:13-14 (WEB)

Just as we count backward in our rocket launch, we can focus on moving forward in our faith journey

📦 Materials Needed

  • Rocket ship picture
  • Number cards (0-5)
  • Open floor space

Lesson Plan

1Opening (3 min)

Welcome to today's BibleMouse math adventure! We're going to be rocket scientists today and learn how to count backward.

💭 Review Question: Can you show me how you counted yesterday?
2Teaching (5 min)

Today we'll learn how rockets count down before launching. Just like astronauts say '5, 4, 3, 2, 1... Blast Off!', we can count backward too!

📌 Key Talking Points:
  • Counting backward means starting at a bigger number and going down
  • We'll start at 5 and count down to zero
  • Each number gets smaller as we get closer to blast off!
💬 Discussion Questions:
  • What do you think happens when a rocket counts down?
  • Can you show me what counting backward looks like?
3Activity: Rocket Countdown Dance (6 min)
movement

Students will act out a rocket launch by counting backward and jumping

📝 Instructions:
  1. Stand tall like a rocket
  2. Count loudly: '5, 4, 3, 2, 1!'
  3. Jump high and shout 'BLAST OFF!' on zero
  4. Repeat several times
🔄 Variations:

Simpler: Count with parent assistance

Challenge: Add hand motions for each number

4Closing (3 min)

Great job, BibleMouse explorers! You've learned to count backward!

📝 Review Questions:
  • What numbers did we count backward from?
  • What happens when we reach zero?

Coming up: Tomorrow we'll count backward with a fun monkey song!
