Lesson Plan

1Opening (3 min)

Welcome to today's BibleMouse art adventure! Yesterday we explored primary colors, and today we'll learn how to make different kinds of brush strokes.

💭 Review Question: What colors did we use yesterday?
2Teaching (7 min)

Today we'll learn how to make different brush strokes - long lines, short lines, dots, and swirls!

📌 Key Talking Points:
  • Long strokes are like drawing a line across the paper
  • Short strokes are tiny marks
  • Dots are like tiny paint spots
  • Swirls are curved, twisty marks
💬 Discussion Questions:
  • What shapes can we make with our brush?
  • Can you show me a long stroke?
3Activity: Brush Stroke Exploration (8 min)
hands-on

Children will practice making different types of brush strokes on their paper

📝 Instructions:
  1. Put on your art smock
  2. Choose one color of paint
  3. Try making long strokes from one side of the paper to the other
  4. Next, make short little strokes
  5. Then try making dots by tapping the brush
  6. Finally, create swirly marks by moving your brush in circles
🔄 Variations:

Simpler: Focus on just long and short strokes

Challenge: Try creating a picture using only different types of strokes

4Closing (3 min)

Let's clean up and talk about our beautiful artwork!

📝 Review Questions:
  • What types of strokes did you make today?
  • Which stroke was your favorite?

Coming up: Tomorrow we'll learn how to paint different shapes!
