Learning Objectives

1

Understand the difference between rolling and sliding objects

2

Predict and observe how different objects move on a ramp

3

Develop curiosity about how things move

Proverbs 16:9

A man's heart plans his way, but Yahweh directs his steps.

Proverbs 16:9 (WEB)

Just as we predict how objects will move, God guides our path. We can make plans, but God ultimately directs our journey.

📦 Materials Needed

  • Wooden ramp (or cardboard)
  • Variety of objects (balls, blocks, cylinders)
  • Towel or non-slip mat
  • Timer (optional)

Lesson Plan

1Opening (3 min)

Recap yesterday's lesson about sliding and rolling. Gather objects from previous lessons.

💭 Review Question: What did we learn about things that move yesterday?
2Teaching (5 min)

Introduce ramp experiment. Explain how we'll test different objects.

📌 Key Talking Points:
  • Some things roll down the ramp
  • Some things slide down the ramp
  • We'll guess what will happen first!
💬 Discussion Questions:
  • What do you think will happen?
  • Do you think a ball or a block will move faster?
3Activity: Ramp Race Experiment (6 min)
experimentation

Test different objects on a ramp, observe how they move

📝 Instructions:
  1. Set up ramp on a slight incline
  2. Place different objects at top of ramp
  3. Let each object go and watch how it moves
  4. Sort objects into 'roll' or 'slide' groups
🔄 Variations:

Simpler: Help child release objects, guide observations

Challenge: Time how fast different objects move

4Closing (3 min)

Review what we learned about moving objects

📝 Review Questions:
  • What rolled down the ramp?
  • What slid down the ramp?

Coming up: Tomorrow we'll sort our objects into rolling and sliding groups!

Teaching Notes

📚 Background:

PK3 children are learning basic physics through play and observation

💡 Teaching Tips:
  • Use lots of excitement and praise
  • Let child explore and make mistakes
  • Focus on observation, not perfect scientific method
🤔 Common Struggles:

Staying focused, understanding abstract movement concepts

👀 Signs of Understanding:

Child's excitement about predicting and watching object movement

Extension Activities

  • Create a BibleMouse movement song about rolling and sliding
  • Use BibleMouse Printables Library for movement-themed coloring

Ready for Tomorrow?
