3

Develop early counting and comparison skills

Matthew 14:17

📦 Materials Needed

  • Counting bears (or small toys)
  • Two different colored containers
  • BibleMouse Resource Guide: PK3 Math

Lesson Plan

1Opening (3 min)

Greet your little learner with excitement! Remind them of yesterday's lesson about Jesus feeding many people.

💭 Review Question: Can you remember how many people Jesus fed?
2Teaching (5 min)

Today, we're going to play a fun game about 'more'! Just like Jesus can do more with a little, we can learn about comparing things.

📌 Key Talking Points:
  • Look at these two containers
  • We'll count how many bears are in each
  • Then we'll see which container has MORE!
💬 Discussion Questions:
  • Can you show me 'more'?
  • Which group looks bigger?
3Activity: More Bears Game (6 min)
hands-on comparison

Place 1 bear in one container and 5 bears in another. Help child compare and count.

📝 Instructions:
  1. Put bears in two different containers
  2. Count bears in first container
  3. Count bears in second container
  4. Ask 'Which container has MORE bears?'
  5. Let child point and count again
🔄 Variations:

Simpler: Use fewer bears, help count

Challenge: Use different sized objects, encourage independent counting

4Closing (3 min)

Celebrate your child's learning! Give high fives and praise.

📝 Review Questions:
  • How many bears were in the first container?
  • How many bears were in the second container?

Coming up: Tomorrow, we'll play with MORE toys and learn about adding!
