Genesis 1:1

β€œIn the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.”

β€” Genesis 1:1 (WEB)

This verse tells us that God made everything - the whole world and everything in it! Today we're celebrating all the wonderful things God created.

πŸ“¦ Materials Needed

  • flashlight
  • yellow construction paper
  • star stickers
  • black paper

Lesson Plan

1Opening (3 min)

Welcome your little one to today's BibleMouse lesson! Say, 'This week we've learned so many amazing things about what God made! Let's remember together!' Use your flashlight to shine light around the room as you talk.

πŸ’ Review Question: Can you remember what twinkles in the dark sky that God made? Yes - stars!
2Teaching (5 min)

Open your Bible to Genesis and say, 'The Bible tells us that God made everything! Let's think about all the wonderful things we learned this week.' Read Genesis 1:1 from the World English Bible: 'In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.'

πŸ“Œ Key Talking Points:
  • God made the bright light that helps us see
  • God made day when it's light and night when it's dark
  • God made the warm, bright sun and the twinkling stars
  • God made EVERYTHING in our whole world!
πŸ’¬ Discussion Questions:
  • What did God make that shines bright during the day?
  • What did God make that twinkles at night?
  • Who made everything we can see?
3Activity: God's Creation Review Game (6 min)
review

Use your BibleMouse materials to play a fun review game! Hold up the yellow paper and say 'God made the sun!' Turn on the flashlight for 'God made light!' Put star stickers on black paper while saying 'God made stars!' Let your child help with each action.

πŸ“ Instructions:
  1. Show the yellow construction paper and say 'God made the bright sun!' Have child pretend to be sunshine by stretching arms wide
  2. Turn flashlight on and off while saying 'God made light and darkness!' Child can close and open eyes with the light
  3. Put star stickers on black paper saying 'God made twinkly stars!' Let child add stickers and make twinkling motions with fingers
  4. End by saying together 'God made EVERYTHING!' with big celebration movements
πŸ”„ Variations:

Simpler: Focus on just two items - sun (yellow paper) and stars (stickers) with simple pointing and naming

Challenge: Add more creation items from around the room - flowers, toys, books - saying 'God made everything!' for each

4Closing (3 min)

Gather your materials and sit close together. Say, 'God made so many wonderful things! We learned about light, day, night, sun, and stars this week. God made everything!'

πŸ“ Review Questions:
  • What are some things God made that we learned about?
  • Who made everything in our world?
πŸ™ Prayer:

Dear God, thank you for making everything! Thank you for light, for day and night, for the sun and stars. We love all the things you made! Amen.

Coming up: Tomorrow in our BibleMouse lesson, we'll learn about something else God made - swimming fishies in the water!

Genesis 1:1

β€œGod made everything!”

β€” Genesis 1:1 (WEB)

🎯 Activity: Create a 'God Made Everything' action song! Say 'God made everything!' while clapping hands, then point up high, spin around, and end with arms stretched wide. Repeat 3 times with increasing excitement!

Teaching Notes

πŸ“š Background:

This review lesson helps solidify the week's learning about God as Creator. At age 3, children learn through repetition and multi-sensory experiences. The concrete items (sun, stars, light) are perfect for this age group to understand God's creative power.

πŸ’‘ Teaching Tips:
  • Keep energy high and celebratory - creation is exciting!
  • Let your child hold and manipulate the materials as much as possible
  • If attention wanes, move to the physical movements quickly
πŸ€” Common Struggles:

Some children may want to focus on just one material (like the stickers). That's okay! Follow their interest while still naming what God made.

πŸ‘€ Signs of Understanding:

Child can name at least one thing God made, shows excitement about creation, attempts to say 'God made...' even if not perfectly clear

Extension Activities

  • Take a creation walk outside and point out things God made - trees, flowers, birds, clouds
  • Check your BibleMouse Resource Guide for Grade PK3 Bible for additional creation-themed coloring pages and activities
  • Sing creation songs from the BibleMouse Song Collection during car rides or play time

Ready for Tomorrow?

Great job completing today's lesson!
