  • glue stick
  • crayons
  • letter stickers

Lesson Plan

1Opening (3 min)

Welcome to today's BibleMouse lesson! Let's start by looking in our mirror again. Say your name out loud! Yesterday we learned that God calls us by our name, just like He called Samuel and Mary. Today we're going to learn about another very special name we have!

πŸ’ Review Question: Can you remember who God called by name in our lesson yesterday?
2Teaching (5 min)

Listen to this wonderful verse from God's Word: 'Behold, how great a love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God!' Do you know what that means? When you love Jesus, you become part of God's family! God becomes your Heavenly Father, and you become His child. That's such a wonderful name - 'God's child!' You have your mommy and daddy here on earth, and you also have God as your Heavenly Father who loves you so much!

πŸ“Œ Key Talking Points:
  • When we love Jesus, we join God's family
  • God becomes our Heavenly Father
  • Being called 'God's child' is a very special name
πŸ’¬ Discussion Questions:
  • Who is in your family here at home?
  • How does it feel to know God is your Heavenly Father too?
3Activity: God's Family Tree (6 min)
craft

We're going to make a special family tree that shows you belong to God's family! This craft will help you remember that you are God's precious child.

πŸ“ Instructions:
  1. Help your child tear brown paper into a tree trunk shape and glue it on their paper
  2. Use green paper to make leaves or let them color leaves with crayons around the top
  3. Glue your child's photo on the tree
  4. Use letter stickers or help them write 'God's Child' under their photo
  5. Let them decorate around the tree with hearts and colors
πŸ”„ Variations:

Simpler: Pre-cut all pieces and just let child glue and color

Challenge: Add other family members' photos and talk about how your whole family can be God's children

4Closing (3 min)

Look at your beautiful family tree! You belong to God's family because you love Jesus. Let's practice saying 'I am God's child!' Say it with a big smile because it's such a happy thing!

πŸ“ Review Questions:
  • What special name do we have when we love Jesus?
  • Who is your Heavenly Father?
πŸ™ Prayer:

Dear God, thank You for loving us so much that we can be called Your children. Help us remember that we belong to Your family. Amen.

Coming up: Tomorrow in our BibleMouse lesson, we'll learn that God knows everything about you - even when you sit down and stand up!

Psalm 139:14

β€œGod made me special!”

β€” Psalm 139:14 (WEB)

🎯 Activity: Practice our memory verse by doing special movements! Stand up tall and point to yourself when you say 'God made ME special!' Then give yourself a big hug because you are so special to God!

Teaching Notes

πŸ“š Background:

The concept of being 'adopted' into God's family through faith in Jesus is a foundational Christian truth. For PK3, focus on the love and security aspect rather than theological complexity. This builds on their understanding of earthly family relationships.

πŸ’‘ Teaching Tips:
  • Use your child's relationship with you to help explain God's love as their Heavenly Father
  • Emphasize the joy and security of belonging to God's family
πŸ€” Common Struggles:

Some children may be confused about having two fathers (earthly and heavenly). Reassure them that God gives us earthly parents to take care of us here, and He is our Heavenly Father who loves us forever.

πŸ‘€ Signs of Understanding:

Child can say 'I am God's child' and shows understanding that God loves them like a father

Extension Activities

  • Look through family photos and talk about how each person can be part of God's family too
  • Check your BibleMouse Resource Guide for Grade PK3 Bible for additional family-themed activities and songs
