  • blue fabric or blanket (for 'ocean')
  • flashlight
  • cotton balls or blue tissue paper
  • measuring tape or long ribbon

Lesson Plan

1Opening (3 min)

Welcome to today's BibleMouse lesson! Let's start by remembering what we learned yesterday. God sees you everywhere - when you play, eat, and sleep! Today we're going to discover something even more amazing about God's love for you!

πŸ’ Review Question: Can you show me where God sees you when you sleep? When you play?
2Teaching (5 min)

Today we're learning that God's love is SO BIG! Let's read what the Bible says: 'For as the heavens are high above the earth, so great is his loving kindness toward those who fear him' (Psalm 103:11, WEB). That means God's love for you is as big as the whole sky! Look up - can you see where the sky ends? God's love is even bigger than that!

πŸ“Œ Key Talking Points:
  • God's love is bigger than the sky above us
  • God's love is deeper than the deepest ocean
  • God's love for you never, ever stops - it goes on forever and ever
πŸ’¬ Discussion Questions:
  • What's the biggest thing you can think of?
  • Can you stretch your arms to show me something really big?
3Activity: Big Love Sensory Exploration (6 min)
sensory

Children will use their senses to experience 'big' and 'endless' through touch, sight, and movement while learning about God's massive love.

πŸ“ Instructions:
  1. Sky Love: Shine flashlight on ceiling and move it around. 'God's love is bigger than this whole sky!' Let child try to catch the light with their hands.
  2. Ocean Love: Lay out blue fabric and add cotton balls or tissue. Let child run their hands through it. 'God's love is deeper than the deepest ocean!'
  3. Endless Love: Unroll measuring tape or ribbon across the room. Walk along it together. 'God's love goes on and on and never stops!' Give child heart cutouts to place along the ribbon.
πŸ”„ Variations:

Simpler: Focus on just one sensory station and use simple words like 'big, big, BIG!'

Challenge: Have child help measure things in the room and compare them to God's 'unmeasurable' love

4Closing (3 min)

What an amazing truth we learned today! God's love for you is bigger than the sky, deeper than the ocean, and it never ends. You can check your BibleMouse Resource Guide for more activities about God's big love this week!

πŸ“ Review Questions:
  • How big is God's love for you?
  • Does God's love ever stop?
πŸ™ Prayer:

Dear God, thank You that Your love for us is so big! Help us remember that Your love is bigger than anything we can see. Amen.

Coming up: Tomorrow we'll have a special celebration day to thank God for making us, knowing us, seeing us, and loving us always!

Genesis 1:1

β€œGod made everything!”

β€” Genesis 1:1 (WEB)

🎯 Activity: Practice with big motions! Stretch arms wide on 'God,' point up and around on 'made,' and spread arms super wide on 'everything!' Say it three times getting bigger each time.

Teaching Notes

πŸ“š Background:

At age 3, children are beginning to understand size concepts but still think very concretely. Use physical demonstrations and let them experience 'bigness' through their senses rather than trying to explain abstract concepts.

πŸ’‘ Teaching Tips:
  • Use exaggerated motions and voice inflection to emphasize 'BIG'
  • Let your child lead the exploration and repeat the activity if they're engaged
πŸ€” Common Struggles:

Some children may feel overwhelmed by the concept of 'endless' - reassure them that God's big love means they are extra safe and cared for.

πŸ‘€ Signs of Understanding:

Child using 'big' motions when talking about God's love, or mentioning God's love being 'big like the sky'

Extension Activities

  • Take a nature walk and point out big things God made, reminding child that God's love is even bigger
  • Use the BibleMouse Song Collection to find songs about God's love and sing them during the sensory activity
