β€” Psalm 139:14 (WEB)

This verse teaches us that God made each person special and wonderful, exactly the way He wanted them to be

πŸ“¦ Materials Needed

  • small mirror or reflective surface
  • heart cutouts
  • stickers
  • crayons
  • glue stick
  • construction paper

Lesson Plan

1Opening (3 min)

Welcome to today's BibleMouse lesson! Hold up the mirror and let your child look at themselves. Say, 'Look who I see! I see someone very special that God made!' Yesterday we learned that God knows your name. Today we're going to learn something even more wonderful!

πŸ’ Review Question: Do you remember who knows your name? That's right - God knows your name!
2Teaching (5 min)

Let your child continue looking in the mirror as you teach. 'God made you! He made your eyes, your nose, your smile - everything about you! And guess what? God thinks you are WONDERFUL!' Share our Bible verse simply: 'The Bible says God made you wonderful!' Point to different parts of your child as you talk.

πŸ“Œ Key Talking Points:
  • God made your beautiful eyes to see His world
  • God made your ears to hear people who love you
  • God made you exactly the way He wanted you to be
πŸ’¬ Discussion Questions:
  • What do you see when you look in the mirror?
  • Who made your pretty smile?
3Activity: My Wonderful Me Mirror (6 min)
craft

Create a special decorated mirror frame that reminds your child they are wonderfully made by God. This craft reinforces the lesson while giving them something tangible to remember God's love.

πŸ“ Instructions:
  1. Help your child glue heart cutouts around the edges of construction paper to make a frame
  2. Let them decorate the hearts with stickers and crayons
  3. Tape or glue the mirror in the center of the decorated frame
  4. Write 'God made me wonderful!' at the bottom (let child help color the letters)
πŸ”„ Variations:

Simpler: Pre-cut all pieces and just let child stick on stickers and place hearts

Challenge: Let child cut out their own hearts with safety scissors and write their own name on the craft

4Closing (3 min)

Have your child look in their new mirror and say 'God made me wonderful!' together. Celebrate how special they are! Practice our memory verse one more time with the pointing game.

πŸ“ Review Questions:
  • Who made you wonderful?
  • What does God think about how He made you?
πŸ™ Prayer:

Dear God, thank You for making [child's name] so wonderful and special. Help them remember that You love exactly how You made them. Amen.

Coming up: Tomorrow we'll learn that God sees you everywhere - even when you're playing and sleeping!

Genesis 1:1

β€œGod made everything!”

β€” Genesis 1:1 (WEB)

🎯 Activity: Point to different things around the room (chair, window, child's nose, etc.) and say together 'God made everything!' with big arm gestures on 'everything'

Teaching Notes

πŸ“š Background:

Psalm 139 is a beautiful chapter about God's intimate knowledge and love for each person. At this age, focus on the simple truth that God made them special and loves how He made them. This builds healthy self-image rooted in God's love.

πŸ’‘ Teaching Tips:
  • Use the mirror frequently during the lesson to make it concrete and personal
  • Emphasize positive words like 'wonderful,' 'special,' and 'beautiful' throughout
  • If your child is self-critical about appearance, gently redirect to 'God made you perfect!'
πŸ€” Common Struggles:

Some children may be shy about looking at themselves or may focus on things they don't like. Keep redirecting to God's perspective and His love.

πŸ‘€ Signs of Understanding:

Child shows excitement about being 'wonderful' and can repeat simple phrases like 'God made me' when prompted

Extension Activities

  • Check out the BibleMouse Song Collection for songs about being wonderfully made that you can sing together throughout the week
  • Use the decorated mirror during morning routines, saying 'Good morning, wonderful child of God!' when your child looks in it
