This passage shows us how God lovingly brought each animal to Adam, giving him the special job of naming them all

  • basket or box
  • simple name tags or paper strips
  • crayons or markers

Lesson Plan

1Opening (3 min)

Welcome to today's BibleMouse lesson! Yesterday we learned that Adam and Eve walked and talked with God in the beautiful garden. God was their special friend! Today we'll discover something amazing that God asked Adam to do with all the animals.

πŸ’ Review Question: Do you remember who Adam and Eve's special friend was in the garden?
2Teaching (5 min)

Let's hear what happened next in God's beautiful garden! God brought every single animal to Adam - the big elephants, the tiny mice, the colorful birds, and even the slithery snakes. God said to Adam, 'I want you to give each animal a name!' What an important job! Adam looked at each animal carefully and gave it the perfect name.

πŸ“Œ Key Talking Points:
  • God brought ALL the animals to Adam
  • Adam got to choose what to call each animal
  • This was a special job God gave to Adam
πŸ’¬ Discussion Questions:
  • What animals do you think Adam saw first?
  • How do you think Adam decided what to name each animal?
  • What would you name a giraffe if you were Adam?
3Activity: Adam's Animal Naming Game (6 min)
game

Your child will pretend to be Adam, naming animals just like in the Bible story! Place toy animals or pictures in a basket. Take turns pulling out animals, making their sounds, and either saying their real names or making up silly new names like Adam might have done.

πŸ“ Instructions:
  1. Put all the toy animals or pictures in a basket
  2. Let your child reach in and pull out one animal at a time
  3. Say 'God brings this animal to Adam!' and make the animal sound together
  4. Have your child give the animal a name (real or made-up)
  5. Clap and say 'Good job, Adam!' after each naming
  6. Continue until all animals have been named
πŸ”„ Variations:

Simpler: Use just 3-4 familiar animals and focus on making sounds rather than naming

Challenge: Have child sort animals into groups (farm animals, jungle animals, etc.) before naming them

4Closing (3 min)

What a wonderful job you did naming the animals, just like Adam! God gave Adam this special work because He loved him and trusted him. God loves to give His people important jobs to do.

πŸ“ Review Questions:
  • Who brought all the animals to Adam?
  • What job did God give to Adam?
πŸ™ Prayer:

Thank You, God, for making so many wonderful animals. Thank You for giving Adam the special job of naming them all. Help us to do good work for You too. Amen.

Coming up: Tomorrow in our BibleMouse lesson, we'll learn about all the good gifts God gave to Adam and Eve!

Genesis 1:1

β€œGod made everything!”

β€” Genesis 1:1 (WEB)

🎯 Activity: Point to different things around the room while saying the verse. Have your child copy your pointing motions and say 'God made the chair! God made the window!' then finish with 'God made everything!'

Teaching Notes

πŸ“š Background:

This passage demonstrates God's trust in humanity and Adam's role as caretaker of creation. The act of naming shows authority and relationship - God was involving Adam in the ongoing work of creation.

πŸ’‘ Teaching Tips:
  • Use lots of animal sounds to keep it engaging
  • Let your child be creative with animal names
  • Emphasize that this was God's idea, showing His love for Adam
πŸ€” Common Struggles:

Some children may get overwhelmed by too many animals at once or may want to play with toys instead of focusing on the lesson

πŸ‘€ Signs of Understanding:

Child can identify that God brought animals to Adam, enjoys making animal sounds, and understands that naming was Adam's special job

Extension Activities

  • Look through picture books about animals and practice naming them, or visit your BibleMouse Resource Guide for additional animal-themed activities
  • Go on a nature walk and 'name' (identify) animals you see outside, just like Adam did
  • Draw pictures of your favorite animals and write their names with help

Ready for Tomorrow?
