Genesis 2:7

β€œYahweh God formed man from the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.”

β€” Genesis 2:7 (WEB)

This verse shows us exactly how God made Adam - He formed him with His own hands from the dust and gave him life with His breath

πŸ“¦ Materials Needed

  • play dough
  • Bible
  • small bowl of dirt or sand (optional)

Lesson Plan

1Opening (3 min)

Welcome to today's BibleMouse lesson! Last time we learned that God loves all the animals He made. Today we're going to learn about something even more special - God made people! And the very first person God made was named Adam.

πŸ’ Review Question: Can you roar like the lions God made? What other animals did God make?
2Teaching (5 min)

Open your Bible to Genesis and share: 'Our Bible tells us that God made the first person named Adam. But God didn't make Adam the same way He made the animals. God used His very own hands to form Adam from the dust of the ground!' Show the verse Genesis 2:7 and read it simply: 'God formed man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life.'

πŸ“Œ Key Talking Points:
  • God used His hands to make Adam
  • Adam was the first person ever
  • God breathed life into Adam
  • People are special to God
πŸ’¬ Discussion Questions:
  • How do you think God felt when He made Adam?
  • What do you use your hands to make?
3Activity: Forming Adam with Play Dough (6 min)
hands-on

Just like God used His hands to form Adam, we're going to use our hands to form a person with play dough! This will help us remember how carefully and lovingly God made Adam.

πŸ“ Instructions:
  1. Give your child a ball of play dough and say 'God used His hands to form Adam, and we can use our hands too!'
  2. Help your child roll and shape the play dough into a simple person shape - head, body, arms, and legs
  3. As you work together, talk about how God carefully made each part of Adam
  4. When finished, pretend to 'breathe life' into your play dough person just like God did with Adam
πŸ”„ Variations:

Simpler: Just make a simple head and body, focusing on 'God made Adam'

Challenge: Add details like eyes, nose, mouth and talk about how God made each part special

4Closing (3 min)

Look at your play dough person! You used your hands to make this, and God used His hands to make Adam. But God's creation was much more special because He gave Adam life and breath!

πŸ“ Review Questions:
  • Who was the first person God made?
  • What did God use to make Adam?
πŸ™ Prayer:

Dear God, thank You for making Adam with Your own hands. Thank You for making people special. Help us remember that You made us too! Amen.

Coming up: Tomorrow in our BibleMouse lesson, we'll learn about how God made a special friend for Adam named Eve!

Genesis 1:1

β€œGod made everything!”

β€” Genesis 1:1 (WEB)

🎯 Activity: Clap and stomp while saying the verse: 'God made' (clap-clap) 'everything!' (stomp-stomp). Repeat 3 times with increasing excitement!

Teaching Notes

πŸ“š Background:

Genesis 2:7 shows the intimate, personal way God created humans - unlike the animals that were spoken into existence, Adam was formed by God's hands and given life by God's breath. This emphasizes the special relationship between God and people.

πŸ’‘ Teaching Tips:
  • Keep the language simple - 'God made Adam with His hands'
  • Let your child do most of the play dough work while you guide
  • Emphasize the word 'special' when talking about people
πŸ€” Common Struggles:

Some children may get distracted by the play dough and want to make other things - gently redirect back to making a person

πŸ‘€ Signs of Understanding:

Child can say 'Adam' and 'God made Adam' - don't worry about complex details at this age

Extension Activities

  • Look at family photos and talk about how God made each person in your family special
  • Check your BibleMouse Resource Guide for Grade PK3 Bible for additional creation-themed activities and printables
  • Sing 'God Made Me' songs from the BibleMouse Song Collection while playing with the play dough person
