Genesis 1:3

β€œGod said, "Let there be light," and there was light.”

β€” Genesis 1:3 (WEB)

This verse shows us God's incredible power - He simply spoke and light appeared in the darkness! Just like when we turn on a flashlight, but God didn't need any tools.

πŸ“¦ Materials Needed

  • flashlight
  • yellow construction paper
  • black paper

Lesson Plan

1Opening (3 min)

Welcome to your very first BibleMouse lesson! Today we're starting an exciting adventure learning about how God made our beautiful world. Let's begin by sitting in a dark room or closing our eyes tight. What do you notice? It's very dark! But God has something amazing planned.

2Teaching (5 min)

Long, long ago, before there were any people, before there were any animals, before there was anything at all, the world was completely dark. But God was there! And God had a wonderful plan. Listen to what happened next from God's special book, the Bible.

πŸ“Œ Key Talking Points:
  • The world was dark and empty at first
  • God spoke powerful words: 'Let there be light!'
  • As soon as God said it, beautiful light appeared!
πŸ’¬ Discussion Questions:
  • What do you think it was like when everything was dark?
  • How do you think God felt when He made the light?
3Activity: Light and Dark Discovery (6 min)
sensory

Experience the wonder of God's first creation through hands-on exploration with light and darkness, just like in the very beginning!

πŸ“ Instructions:
  1. Start with black paper covering the flashlight - everything is dark like before God made light
  2. Say together 'Let there be light!' and remove the black paper to shine the flashlight
  3. Take turns holding yellow construction paper in the light beam, watching it glow bright
  4. Repeat several times, each time saying 'God said Let there be light!' before revealing the light
πŸ”„ Variations:

Simpler: Just focus on turning the flashlight on and off while saying 'Light!' and 'Dark!'

Challenge: Have child predict what will happen when we say God's words, then act out being the light appearing

4Closing (3 min)

What an amazing God we have! He made light just by speaking. Tomorrow in our BibleMouse lesson, we'll discover what God did with all that beautiful light He made.

πŸ“ Review Questions:
  • Who made the very first light?
  • What did God say to make the light?
πŸ™ Prayer:

Dear God, thank You for making light! Help us remember how powerful and wonderful You are. Amen.

Coming up: Tomorrow we'll learn how God separated the light from the darkness to make day and night!

Genesis 1:1

β€œGod made everything!”

β€” Genesis 1:1 (WEB)

🎯 Activity: Practice saying the verse while pointing up to God, then spreading arms wide for 'everything.' Repeat 3 times with different silly voices - whisper voice, happy voice, and strong voice!

Teaching Notes

πŸ“š Background:

This lesson introduces the creation account, focusing on God's power and intentionality. For PK3, we're emphasizing the wonder and simplicity of God speaking light into existence rather than complex theological concepts.

πŸ’‘ Teaching Tips:
  • Use dramatic pauses when reading the scripture to build anticipation
  • Let your child control the flashlight - they love having that power!
  • Emphasize the word 'said' to show God's power through speech
πŸ€” Common Struggles:

Some children may be frightened by darkness - reassure them that God was always there and had a good plan

πŸ‘€ Signs of Understanding:

Watch for your child's sense of wonder when the light appears and their ability to connect God with making light

Extension Activities

  • Go on a 'light hunt' around your house, thanking God for each light you find
  • Check your BibleMouse Resource Guide for additional creation-themed coloring pages and activities for this week
