Learning Objectives

1

Understand that skin helps us feel different textures and temperatures

2

Identify different textures through touch

3

Appreciate how God designed our bodies to learn about the world

Job 10:8

Your hands have framed me and fashioned me altogether.

Job 10:8 (WEB)

God carefully designed our sense of touch to help us explore and understand the world around us

📦 Materials Needed

  • Blindfold
  • Variety of textured objects (soft cloth, rough sandpaper, smooth stone, fuzzy teddy bear)
  • BibleMouse texture sorting mat
  • Warm and cool water in small containers

Lesson Plan

1Opening (3 min)

Welcome to today's BibleMouse science adventure! Yesterday we learned about hearing, and today we'll explore how our skin helps us feel and learn about the world around us.

💭 Review Question: What did you learn about your ears yesterday?
2Teaching (8 min)

Our skin is like a special covering that helps us feel different things. When we touch something, tiny sensors in our skin send messages to our brain about what we're touching.

📌 Key Talking Points:
  • Skin helps us feel soft, rough, smooth, and bumpy things
  • Skin tells us if something is warm or cold
  • God gave us skin to help us explore and understand the world
💬 Discussion Questions:
  • What are some things you like to touch?
  • How does your skin help you know if something is hot or cold?
3Activity: Texture Detective Game (10 min)
hands-on

Use a blindfold to explore different textures and guess what they are

📝 Instructions:
  1. Put on the blindfold
  2. Feel different objects with your hands
  3. Try to describe what you feel
  4. Guess what the object might be
🔄 Variations:

Simpler: Touch objects without blindfold and sort by texture

Challenge: Guess temperature of objects with careful touch

4Closing (3 min)

Review how our skin helps us learn about the world

📝 Review Questions:
  • What did we learn about touching things?
  • How does God help us learn through our sense of touch?

Coming up: Tomorrow we'll explore how our nose and tongue work together to taste and smell!

Teaching Notes

📚 Background:

Young children are naturally curious about touch and textures

💡 Teaching Tips:
  • Supervise all touching activities
  • Encourage descriptive language about textures
  • Make the lesson fun and engaging
🤔 Common Struggles:

Children might get overstimulated or frustrated with blindfold

👀 Signs of Understanding:

Child's ability to describe what they feel without seeing

Extension Activities

  • Create a texture collage using different materials
  • Play 'Guess the Texture' game at home
  • Use BibleMouse Printables Library texture worksheets
