Learning Objectives

1

Identify and describe different textures using descriptive words

2

Explore how touch helps us learn about God's creation

3

Develop sensory observation skills

Psalm 139:14

I will give thanks to you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Your works are wonderful. My soul knows that very well.

Psalm 139:14 (WEB)

Demonstrates how our sense of touch is a miraculous gift from God that helps us explore and understand His creation

📦 Materials Needed

  • Nature collection basket
  • Blindfold
  • Various textured items (sandpaper, cotton, smooth stone, rough bark, etc.)
  • Science journal
  • Pencil or crayon

Lesson Plan

1Opening (3 min)

Welcome to today's BibleMouse science adventure! Yesterday, we used our eyes to observe. Today, we'll use our sense of touch to explore God's amazing world.

💭 Review Question: What interesting things did you see yesterday when we looked closely at objects?
2Teaching (8 min)

Today, we're going to be texture detectives! Our hands can tell us so much about the world God created.

📌 Key Talking Points:
  • Different things feel different when we touch them
  • We can describe textures with special words like rough, smooth, bumpy, and soft
  • God gave us amazing hands to explore His creation
💬 Discussion Questions:
  • What does a rock feel like?
  • Can you find something soft in our nature basket?
3Activity: Texture Treasure Hunt (10 min)
hands-on

Blindfold exploration of different textures

📝 Instructions:
  1. Put on the blindfold
  2. Reach into the nature collection basket
  3. Feel the object carefully
  4. Describe what you feel
  5. Guess what the object might be
🔄 Variations:

Simpler: Touch objects without blindfold and draw in science journal

Challenge: Try to match objects by texture without looking

4Closing (3 min)

Let's review our texture discoveries!

📝 Review Questions:
  • What was the most interesting texture you found?
  • Can you remember a texture word we learned today?

Coming up: Tomorrow in BibleMouse science, we'll start our very first science journal and draw what we've discovered!

Teaching Notes

📚 Background:

Sensory exploration is crucial for early scientific learning

💡 Teaching Tips:
  • Be patient and encouraging
  • Let child explore at their own pace
  • Use descriptive language to expand vocabulary
🤔 Common Struggles:

Children might get frustrated if they can't immediately describe textures

👀 Signs of Understanding:
