Lesson Plan

1Opening (3 min)

Welcome to today's BibleMouse science adventure! Yesterday we used our eyes to observe, today we'll use our ears to listen to God's wonderful world.

💭 Review Question: What did we learn about using our eyes to observe yesterday?
2Teaching (8 min)

Scientists use all their senses to explore God's creation. Today we'll practice listening carefully to different sounds.

📌 Key Talking Points:
  • God gave us ears to hear amazing sounds
  • Different objects make different sounds
  • Listening carefully helps us learn about the world
💬 Discussion Questions:
  • What sounds do you hear right now?
  • Can you make a sound with something in our basket?
3Activity: Sound Detective Game (10 min)
hands-on

Children will close their eyes and identify sounds from different objects

📝 Instructions:
  1. Gather various sound-making objects
  2. Take turns being the 'sound detective'
  3. Blindfold child and play different sounds
  4. Child guesses what made the sound
🔄 Variations:

Simpler: Use fewer objects, make sounds louder

Challenge: Use more subtle or similar-sounding objects

4Closing (3 min)

Draw a picture of something that makes a sound in your BibleMouse science journal

📝 Review Questions:
  • What was your favorite sound today?
  • How many different sounds did we hear?

Coming up: Tomorrow we'll explore how things feel with our sense of touch!

Teaching Notes

📚 Background:

Kindergarteners are developing sensory awareness and discrimination skills

💡 Teaching Tips:
  • Be patient and encouraging
  • Let child explore sounds naturally
  • Praise careful listening
🤔 Common Struggles:

Some children might find sitting still challenging

👀 Signs of Understanding:

Ability to distinguish between different sound types

Extension Activities

  • Create a 'sound walk' outside to hear nature sounds
  • Make simple musical instruments using household items
