Learning Objectives

1

Recall basic properties of different types of matter

2

Demonstrate understanding of push and pull forces

3

Enjoy learning through playful scientific exploration

Proverbs 2:6

For Yahweh gives wisdom. Out of his mouth comes knowledge and understanding.

Proverbs 2:6 (WEB)

God gives us the ability to learn and explore the world He created, just like we're exploring science today!

📦 Materials Needed

  • Small objects from around the house (blocks, toys, balls)
  • Science journal
  • Colored stickers or markers
  • BibleMouse Science Exploration Mat (optional)

Lesson Plan

1Opening (3 min)

Welcome to today's BibleMouse science adventure! Let's remember how much fun we've had exploring science this year.

💭 Review Question: What was your favorite science discovery we learned about this year?
2Teaching (8 min)

Today we'll play a fun review game about matter and forces. Remember, matter is anything that takes up space, and forces are pushes and pulls that make things move!

📌 Key Talking Points:
  • Some things are hard, some are soft
  • Things can move when we push or pull them
  • Different objects move differently
💬 Discussion Questions:
  • Can you show me a push?
  • Can you show me a pull?
3Activity: Matter Movers Challenge (10 min)
game

A playful game where children identify and demonstrate properties of matter and forces

📝 Instructions:
  1. Gather objects from around the room
  2. Sort objects by how they move (roll, slide, bounce)
  3. Take turns pushing and pulling objects
  4. Use stickers to mark different properties
🔄 Variations:

Simpler: Help child sort just 3-4 objects

Challenge: Try predicting how objects will move before testing

4Closing (3 min)

Let's review what we learned about matter and forces!

📝 Review Questions:
  • What makes things move?
  • Can you name something hard? Something soft?

Coming up: Tomorrow we'll play another fun science review game about Earth and weather!

Teaching Notes

📚 Background:

Kindergarteners are concrete learners who learn best through hands-on exploration

💡 Teaching Tips:
  • Use lots of positive encouragement
  • Let child explore and make discoveries
  • Don't worry about perfect scientific explanations
🤔 Common Struggles:

Children might get confused between different types of matter or forces

👀 Signs of Understanding:

Excitement about exploring, willingness to try new things

Extension Activities

  • Use BibleMouse Printables Library for matter and force coloring sheets
  • Read a science picture book about movement from BibleMouse Read-Aloud Library
