Learning Objectives

1

Understand basic concepts of object motion

2

Make simple predictions about how objects will move

3

Practice careful observation and testing

Proverbs 3:5-6

Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don't lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

Proverbs 3:5-6 (WEB)

Just as we learn to predict how objects move, we learn to trust God's guidance in our path

📦 Materials Needed

  • Toy cars
  • Ramps
  • Smooth flat surface
  • Notebook for recording
  • Pencil
  • Various small objects (balls, blocks)

Lesson Plan

1Opening (3 min)

Welcome to today's BibleMouse science adventure! Let's review what we learned about pushing and pulling things yesterday.

💭 Review Question: What did we learn about how things move on ramps?
2Teaching (8 min)

Today we'll learn how to make smart guesses about how things will move before they actually move!

📌 Key Talking Points:
  • Objects move differently based on surface and push/pull
  • We can make predictions before testing
  • It's okay if our first guess isn't perfect
💬 Discussion Questions:
  • What do you think will happen if we push a car?
  • How might a ball roll differently than a block?
3Activity: Motion Prediction Challenge (10 min)
hands-on

Children predict and test how different objects move on various surfaces

📝 Instructions:
  1. Choose an object
  2. Make a prediction about how it will move
  3. Gently push or roll the object
  4. Draw or tell what actually happened
🔄 Variations:

Simpler: Use only smooth surfaces and larger objects

Challenge: Try predicting movement on different inclines

4Closing (3 min)

Review our motion predictions and celebrate our scientific thinking!

📝 Review Questions:
  • What surprised you about how things moved?
  • Which prediction was most accurate?

Coming up: Tomorrow we'll explore how forces show up in everyday life

Teaching Notes

📚 Background:

Kindergarteners are learning cause and effect through physical exploration

💡 Teaching Tips:
  • Encourage curiosity over 'correct' answers
  • Let child lead exploration
  • Praise effort and observation
🤔 Common Struggles:

May get frustrated if predictions aren't exactly right

👀 Signs of Understanding:

Engagement, willingness to try, basic understanding of movement

Extension Activities

  • Use BibleMouse Printables Library motion tracking worksheet
  • Sing motion-themed song from BibleMouse Song Collection
  • Read recommended science picture book from BibleMouse Read-Aloud Library

Ready for Tomorrow?
