  • Water
  • Paper towels
  • Ziplock bags

Lesson Plan

1Opening (3 min)

Recap yesterday's lesson about different types of seeds

💭 Review Question: What special tiny packages did we learn about yesterday?
2Teaching (8 min)

Exploring what seeds need to grow

📌 Key Talking Points:
  • Seeds are like tiny baby plants waiting to wake up
  • Seeds need three special things: water, warmth, and soil
  • God designed seeds to grow in a magical way
💬 Discussion Questions:
  • What do you think helps a seed start growing?
  • Have you ever seen a seed sprout?
3Activity: Seed Growing Detective (10 min)
hands-on experiment

Simple seed germination experiment to demonstrate seed needs

📝 Instructions:
  1. Take a paper towel and make it slightly damp
  2. Place 3-4 bean seeds on the wet paper towel
  3. Fold the paper towel carefully
  4. Put the towel in a clear ziplock bag
  5. Place the bag in a warm spot
  6. Check the seeds every day
🔄 Variations:

Simpler: Help child with each step

Challenge: Let child record daily observations in a BibleMouse science journal

4Closing (3 min)

Review what seeds need to grow

📝 Review Questions:
  • What three things do seeds need?
  • Who made seeds able to grow?

Coming up: Tomorrow we'll start planting our very own bean garden!

Teaching Notes

📚 Background:

Seeds require specific conditions to germinate: moisture, appropriate temperature, and growing medium

💡 Teaching Tips:
  • Use gentle, enthusiastic language about God's creation
  • Allow child to touch and explore seeds
  • Emphasize wonder and mystery of plant growth
🤔 Common Struggles:

Patience in waiting for seeds to sprout

👀 Signs of Understanding:

Child's curiosity and excitement about seed growth

Extension Activities

  • Create a seed growth observation chart in BibleMouse Printables Library
