Lesson Plan

1Opening (5 min)

Gather in a circle and sing a welcome song about words and sounds. Explain that today we'll be like word builders, adding sounds to create new words!

💭 Review Question: Can you think of a word and tell me what sound you might add to it?
2Teaching (5 min)

Demonstrate how adding one sound can change a word completely. Show examples like 'at' becomes 'cat' or 'run' becomes 'runt'.

📌 Key Talking Points:
  • Sounds can be added to the beginning or end of words
  • Adding sounds creates new words with different meanings
  • Listen carefully to each sound
💬 Discussion Questions:
  • What happens when we add a sound?
  • Can you hear the new sound?
3Activity: Sound Builder Challenge (7 min)
game

Children work in pairs to build words by adding sounds using letter tiles

📝 Instructions:
  1. Start with a simple word like 'at'
  2. Take turns adding sounds to create new words
  3. Say each new word out loud
  4. Check if the word makes sense
🔄 Variations:

Simpler: Teacher provides word base and suggests sounds to add

Challenge: Children create their own word bases and challenge each other

4Closing (3 min)

Recap how adding sounds can create new words

📝 Review Questions:
  • What new words did you create today?
  • What sound did you add to make a new word?
🙏 Prayer:

Dear Jesus, thank You for giving us words to communicate and share Your love.

Coming up: Tomorrow we'll play more sound games and become Word Wizards!
