Lesson Plan

1Opening (3 min)

Review yesterday's treble clef lesson by drawing the clef in the air

💭 Review Question: Can you remember what we learned about the treble clef yesterday?
2Teaching (7 min)

Introduce how notes live on lines and spaces of the music staff

  • Our music staff is like a little house for notes
  • Notes can sit right on the lines
  • Notes can also sit in the spaces between lines

  • Where do you think a note might like to rest?
  • Can you point to a line on our staff?
3Activity: Note Hop Adventure (8 min)

Children will become living notes, hopping on lines and in spaces

📝 Instructions:
  1. Create a large floor staff using tape or chalk
  2. Have child stand on different lines and spaces
  3. Use stuffed animal to demonstrate 'note' placement
  4. Play 'Note Hop' where parent calls out 'line' or 'space'

Simpler: Parent helps child move to correct spot

Challenge: Child gives instructions to parent or sibling

Recap note placement and sing a simple praise song
