Lesson Plan

1Opening (3 min)

Welcome to today's BibleMouse math adventure! Let's review what we learned about comparing numbers yesterday with our Greater Than Alligator.

💭 Review Question: Can you show me how the alligator 'eats' the bigger number?
2Teaching (8 min)

Today we'll explore 'less than' - the opposite of what our alligator friend does! We'll learn how to use the < symbol to show which number is smaller.

📌 Key Talking Points:
  • When we say 'less than', we mean a smaller number
  • The < symbol always points to the smaller number
  • We can use counters to help us compare
💬 Discussion Questions:
  • Which number is less: 3 or 7?
  • How can we prove which number is smaller?
3Activity: Less Than Treasure Hunt (10 min)
game

Students will play a matching game finding less than pairs and marking them with < symbol

📝 Instructions:
  1. Spread number cards 1-10 on the floor
  2. Draw two cards
  3. Use counters to verify which number is less
  4. Place < symbol between the numbers
  5. Record your findings on paper
🔄 Variations:

Simpler: Use only numbers 1-5

Challenge: Use numbers up to 15

4Closing (3 min)

Let's review what we learned about less than today!

📝 Review Questions:
  • What does < mean?
  • Can you show me a less than example?

Coming up: Tomorrow we'll learn about equal numbers in our BibleMouse curriculum!
