3

Develop confidence in mathematical thinking

Proverbs 3:5-6

Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don't lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

Proverbs 3:5-6 (WEB)

Just like we follow a number line step by step, we can trust God to guide our path in learning and life

📦 Materials Needed

  • Large floor number line (can be drawn with chalk or tape)
  • Small bean bags or soft markers
  • Printed number line worksheet from BibleMouse Printables Library

Lesson Plan

1Opening (3 min)

BibleMouse Number Line Adventure begins! Remind students how we added numbers yesterday by counting on.

💭 Review Question: Can you tell me how we added numbers yesterday?
2Teaching (8 min)

Today we'll use a special tool called a number line to help us add teen numbers. We'll 'hop' to find our answers!

📌 Key Talking Points:
  • A number line helps us see how numbers connect
  • We start at our first number and hop forward
  • Each hop represents the number we're adding
💬 Discussion Questions:
  • What do you think hopping on a number line might look like?
  • Can you show me how you might hop to add numbers?
3Activity: Hopping Number Line Addition (10 min)
hands-on

Students will physically hop on a large floor number line to solve addition problems with teen numbers

📝 Instructions:
  1. Start at the first number of the addition problem
  2. Hop forward the number of spaces shown in the second part of the problem
  3. Land on and call out the final sum
🔄 Variations:

Simpler: Use smaller numbers, help child hop

Challenge: Have child create and solve their own number line addition problems

4Closing (3 min)

Review our number line hopping and celebrate our mathematical journey

📝 Review Questions:
  • What did we learn about adding numbers today?
  • How did the number line help us add?

Coming up: Tomorrow we'll solve fun word problems using our new number line skills!
