Lesson Plan

1Opening (3 min)

Gather objects and remind students about yesterday's color sorting lesson

💭 Review Question: Can you remember how we sorted things by color yesterday?
2Teaching (8 min)

Introduce sorting by size concept

📌 Key Talking Points:
  • Some things are big, some are small
  • We can group objects that are similar in size

💬 Discussion Questions:
  • What things in God's creation are big?
  • What things in God's creation are small?
3Activity: Big and Small Sorting Adventure (10 min)
hands-on

Students use sorting tray to separate objects into big and small categories

📝 Instructions:
  1. Take objects from the mixed pile
  2. Place big objects on one side of tray

Challenge: Sort objects into three size categories

4Closing (3 min)

Review size sorting and count groups

📝 Review Questions:
  • How many big things did we find?
  • How many small things did we find?

Coming up: Tomorrow we'll learn about sorting by shape!

Size sorting develops early mathematical thinking and observation skills

💡 Teaching Tips:
  • Use gentle guidance, not correction
  • Make sorting feel like a fun game
  • Praise effort over perfect results
🤔 Common Struggles:

Children might disagree on what counts as 'big' or 'small'
