Lesson Plan

1Opening (3 min)

Welcome to today's BibleMouse art adventure! Let's review our color mixing from yesterday's lesson.

💭 Review Question: What two colors did we mix to make green yesterday?
2Teaching (10 min)

Today we'll learn how artists make colors lighter or darker by adding white or black.

📌 Key Talking Points:
  • White makes colors lighter (called 'tints')
  • Black makes colors darker (called 'shades')
  • God loves beautiful, colorful creativity!
💬 Discussion Questions:
  • What happens when we add white to red?
  • How might a color look different when we add black?
3Activity: Tints and Shades Exploration (12 min)
hands-on experiment

Students will create a color exploration page showing how colors change with white and black

📝 Instructions:
  1. Choose one color (red, blue, or yellow)
  2. Paint a stripe of pure color
  3. Add a little white and paint next to first stripe
  4. Keep adding more white to create lighter tints
  5. Repeat process with black to create darker shades
🔄 Variations:

Simpler: Focus on just one color transformation

Challenge: Create a full color value chart with multiple colors

4Closing (3 min)

Clean up and reflect on our colorful learning

📝 Review Questions:
  • What makes a color lighter?
  • What makes a color darker?

Coming up: Tomorrow we'll create art using just one color and its tints and shades!
