“The simple believes everything, but the prudent gives thought to his steps.”
— Proverbs 14:15 (WEB)Demonstrates the importance of carefully considering evidence before forming an opinion
Gather students in a circle and explain that today we'll learn how to collect strong evidence to support our opinions, just like detectives gather clues.
Evidence is like building blocks for an argument. Each piece of evidence should clearly support your reason and make your opinion more convincing.
Students will practice collecting evidence for a sample opinion using research skills and critical thinking.
Simpler: Provide pre-selected sources for evidence collection
Challenge: Students must find sources independently and evaluate their reliability
Reflect on what students learned about gathering evidence
Dear God, help us to seek truth, think carefully, and use wisdom when forming our opinions.
Coming up: Tomorrow we'll learn about addressing different perspectives in our arguments
