Learn how Christians can positively impact their local area
“Seek the peace of the city where I have caused you to be carried away captive, and pray to Yahweh for it; for in its peace you will have peace.”
— Jeremiah 29:7 (WEB)God calls His people to actively care for and improve their communities
Gather students in a circle and ask them to share one way they've seen someone help their community recently.
Explain how God wants Christians to be active, caring members of their community. Discuss the context of Jeremiah 29 - where God's people were exiled but told to work for the good of the place they were living.
Students will brainstorm and draft a potential service project for their local community.
Simpler: Individual brainstorming of one small helpful action
Challenge: Develop a detailed project proposal with budget and timeline
Groups share their project ideas and reflect on how serving others reflects God's love.
Dear God, help us to love our community and seek its peace, just as You taught us. Show us ways we can serve and care for others. Amen.
Coming up: Tomorrow we'll explore how Christians can be 'salt and light' in society
