Lesson Plan

1Opening (3 min)

Welcome to today's BibleMouse music lesson! Let's recall our dynamic markings from last week.

💭 Review Question: Can you remember what 'pp' stands for in music?
2Teaching (10 min)

Dynamic markings are like a painter's color palette for sound. Just as an artist uses different colors, musicians use different volumes to express emotion.

📌 Key Talking Points:
  • pp (pianissimo) means very soft
  • p (piano) means soft
  • mf (mezzo-forte) means medium loud
  • f (forte) means loud
  • ff (fortissimo) means very loud
💬 Discussion Questions:
  • How might you use different volumes when reading a story?
  • What emotions can different volumes express?
3Activity: Dynamic Praise Song (12 min)
singing technique

Practice singing Psalm 100:1 at different volume levels

📝 Instructions:
  1. Start with pp (very soft whisper)
  2. Gradually increase to f (loud praise)
  3. Switch dynamics randomly when singing
  4. Listen to how volume changes the feeling
🔄 Variations:

Simpler: Use just three volume levels: soft, medium, loud

Challenge: Create a dynamic 'emotion map' while singing

4Closing (3 min)

Recap our dynamic exploration and praise to God

📝 Review Questions:
  • What did we learn about musical dynamics?
  • How can we use dynamics in worship?

Coming up: Tomorrow we'll explore crescendo and decrescendo - gradual volume changes!
