Lesson Plan

1Opening (5 min)

Remind students that today they'll start turning their story plans into a first draft. Emphasize that first drafts are about getting ideas out, not being perfect.

2Teaching (10 min)

Demonstrate first draft writing by thinking aloud, showing how to transform graphic organizer notes into narrative paragraphs

3Activity: Drafting Adventure (10 min)

  2. Start writing your narrative
  3. Keep writing, even if it doesn't sound perfect
  4. Try to fill at least one page

Simpler: Write for 10 minutes with fewer expectations

Challenge: Add dialogue and descriptive details while drafting

Celebrate everyone's first draft efforts, emphasizing progress over perfection
