2Teaching (10 min)

In September 1774, 56 delegates from 12 colonies met in Philadelphia to discuss their response to British policies. They were like a family working together to solve a big problem.

📌 Key Talking Points:
  • Delegates came from different colonies but shared common concerns
  • They discussed peaceful ways to respond to British laws
  • They wrote letters and created plans to resist unfair treatment
  • Each colony sent its most respected leaders
💬 Discussion Questions:
  • Why is it important to listen to different opinions?
  • How can working together help solve big problems?
  • What might have happened if the colonies did not meet?
3Activity: Continental Congress Simulation (10 min)
hands-on

Students role-play as delegates from different colonies, discussing a common problem and creating a united response.

📝 Instructions:
  1. Give each student a name tag representing a colony
  2. Present a classroom 'problem' to solve together
  3. Have students discuss and vote on a solution
  4. Create a group 'declaration' addressing the issue
🔄 Variations:

Simpler: Teacher guides the discussion more closely

Challenge: Students must create written arguments for their position

4Closing (5 min)

Recap how working together can create positive change

📝 Review Questions:
  • What did the delegates hope to accomplish?
  • How is working together like our memory verse?
  • What did you learn about teamwork today?
🙏 Prayer:

Dear God, help us to work together with kindness and respect, listening to one another and seeking peaceful solutions.

Coming up: Next week, we'll explore how these discussions led to the American Revolution
