The Art of Seeing: Observational Drawing
Understand the concept of contour drawing
Practice drawing without looking at the paper
Develop patient observation skills as a reflection of God's careful design
“Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it is the wellspring of life.”
— Proverbs 4:23 (WEB)Just as we carefully observe details in drawing, we must carefully observe and guard our hearts, paying attention to the smallest nuances
Welcome to today's BibleMouse art adventure! Yesterday, we explored God's incredible details in creation. Today, we'll use a special drawing technique that helps us see those details more closely.
Contour drawing is a technique where you draw the edges of an object without lifting your pencil or looking at the paper. It teaches us to truly observe and appreciate the intricate lines God has designed in creation.
Students will draw natural objects without looking at their paper, focusing entirely on the object's edges and lines.
Simpler: Use larger objects with more defined edges
Challenge: Draw multiple overlapping objects in one continuous line
Share and discuss your drawings. Reflect on how careful observation can reveal beauty.
Coming up: Tomorrow, we'll practice modified contour drawing, looking occasionally at our paper to create more accurate drawings.
Contour drawing develops observation skills and hand-eye coordination
Frustration with imperfect drawings, wanting to look at the paper
Sustained concentration, willingness to try challenging technique
