Learning Objectives

1

Demonstrate understanding of plant and animal life cycles

2

Create visual representations of learned life cycle concepts

3

Practice presenting scientific information to peers

Genesis 1:11-12

God said, 'Let the earth sprout vegetation, plants yielding seed, and fruit trees bearing fruit after their kind, with seed in them, on the earth.' And it was so. The earth brought forth vegetation, plants yielding seed after their kind, and trees bearing fruit with seed in them, after their kind. God saw that it was good.

Genesis 1:11-12 (WEB)

This verse highlights the beautiful, orderly way God designed life cycles, showing how each living thing reproduces according to its own pattern

📦 Materials Needed

  • Large poster board or chart paper
  • Colored markers
  • Pencils
  • Colored pencils or crayons
  • Scissors
  • Glue stick
  • Science journal

Lesson Plan

1Opening (3 min)

Welcome to today's BibleMouse science adventure! Let's review the amazing life cycles we've explored this week.

💭 Review Question: Can you remember one interesting thing about how plants or animals grow and change?
2Teaching (12 min)

Today, we'll create a gallery walk to showcase everything we've learned about life cycles. Just like God designed each living thing to grow and change in a special way, we'll celebrate those designs through our artwork.

📌 Key Talking Points:
  • Recap the different life cycles we've studied
  • Discuss how to create an informative poster
  • Review presentation skills
💬 Discussion Questions:
  • What makes a good scientific poster?
  • How can we show the stages of a life cycle clearly?
3Activity: Life Cycle Poster Gallery Walk (14 min)
project and presentation

Students will create detailed posters showing the life cycles of different organisms, then walk around and view each other's work.

📝 Instructions:
  1. Choose one life cycle to illustrate (butterfly, frog, flowering plant, etc.)
  2. Draw and label each stage of the life cycle
  3. Use colored illustrations to make the poster engaging
  4. Prepare a short explanation of the life cycle
  5. Display posters around the room
  6. Walk around and observe other posters, taking notes in science journals
🔄 Variations:

Simpler: Focus on 3-4 main stages with simple drawings

Challenge: Include additional scientific details, research alternative life cycles

4Closing (3 min)

Reflect on how wonderfully God designs life cycles in nature

📝 Review Questions:
  • What was the most interesting life cycle you learned about?
  • How do life cycles show God's creative design?

Coming up: Tomorrow, we'll play a fun review game about inherited traits!

Teaching Notes

📚 Background:

Life cycles demonstrate the complexity and order in God's creation

💡 Teaching Tips:
  • Encourage creativity in poster design
  • Help with labeling if needed
  • Ask open-ended questions about observations
🤔 Common Struggles:

Children might find sequencing stages challenging

👀 Signs of Understanding:

Clear understanding of progression through life cycle stages

Extension Activities

  • Create a 3D life cycle model using clay or craft materials
  • Research a unique or unusual life cycle from the BibleMouse Resource Guide

Ready for Tomorrow?
