Learning Objectives

1

Understand the difference between renewable and nonrenewable energy sources

2

Identify examples of different types of energy sources

3

Recognize God's wisdom in creating diverse energy resources

Genesis 1:1

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.

Genesis 1:1 (WEB)

God created all the resources we use for energy, showing His wisdom and provision

📦 Materials Needed

  • Pictures of energy sources
  • Poster board
  • Colored markers
  • Scissors
  • Glue

Lesson Plan

1Opening (5 min)

Begin with a prayer thanking God for the different ways He provides energy. Ask students what they know about where energy comes from.

💭 Review Question: Can you name something that gives us energy?
2Teaching (10 min)

Explain renewable and nonrenewable energy sources using simple terms and examples. Discuss how God gave us different resources to help us live and work.

📌 Key Talking Points:
  • Renewable energy can be replaced naturally (solar, wind)
  • Nonrenewable energy will run out eventually (coal, oil)
  • God created resources to help us care for the world
💬 Discussion Questions:
  • What makes an energy source renewable?
  • Why is it important to use energy carefully?
  • How can we be good stewards of God's resources?
3Activity: Energy Source Poster (10 min)
hands-on creative

Students create a poster dividing renewable and nonrenewable energy sources

📝 Instructions:
  1. Divide poster board into two sections
  2. Label one side 'Renewable' and one side 'Nonrenewable'
  3. Cut out and glue pictures of different energy sources
  4. Draw and color additional examples
🔄 Variations:

Simpler: Provide pre-cut pictures for younger students

Challenge: Research and add more detailed information about each energy source

4Closing (5 min)

Review the poster and discuss what they learned about energy sources

📝 Review Questions:
  • What is a renewable energy source?
  • What is a nonrenewable energy source?
  • How can we be careful with the resources God has given us?
🙏 Prayer:

Dear God, thank You for creating such wonderful resources to help us live and work. Help us be good caretakers of Your creation.

Coming up: Tomorrow we'll learn about how we can save energy at home and school

Psalm 24:1

The earth is Yahweh's, with its fullness; the world, and those who dwell in it.

Psalm 24:1 (WEB)

🎯 Activity: Create hand motions to help remember the verse
