Learning Objectives

1

Observe water in three different states: solid, liquid, and gas

2

Understand that the same substance can exist in multiple states

3

Develop curiosity about God's creative design in nature

Job 37:18

Can you spread out the sky, which is strong as a cast metal mirror?

Job 37:18 (WEB)

Just as water can change states, God demonstrates incredible flexibility in creation

📦 Materials Needed

  • ice cubes
  • water
  • clear glass
  • hot plate (with adult supervision)
  • science journal
  • pencil

Lesson Plan

1Opening (5 min)

In today's BibleMouse science lesson, we'll explore how water can transform!

💭 Review Question: What states of matter did we learn about in our last lesson?
2Teaching (10 min)

Water is a remarkable substance that can exist as solid (ice), liquid, and gas (water vapor)

📌 Key Talking Points:
  • Ice is water in solid state
  • Liquid water flows and takes container shape
  • Water vapor is invisible but present in air
💬 Discussion Questions:
  • How many forms of water can you name?
  • What happens when ice gets warm?
3Activity: Water State Transformation Experiment (15 min)
demonstration and observation

Students will observe water changing states

📝 Instructions:
  1. Place ice cube in clear glass
  2. Observe solid ice
  3. Let ice melt and observe liquid water
  4. Carefully heat water to observe steam/water vapor
  5. Record observations in science journal
🔄 Variations:

Simpler: Focus on ice melting to liquid

Challenge: Measure and record temperature changes

4Closing (5 min)

Recap water's amazing ability to change states

📝 Review Questions:
  • What three states did we see water in today?
  • How does water change from one state to another?

Coming up: Tomorrow we'll explore how heat affects matter's state

Teaching Notes

📚 Background:

Water is unique in its ability to easily transition between states

💡 Teaching Tips:
  • Supervise heating closely
  • Encourage careful observation
  • Use BibleMouse Resource Guide for additional context
🤔 Common Struggles:

Children might find state changes abstract

👀 Signs of Understanding:

Curiosity about water's transformations

Extension Activities

  • Create water cycle diagram using BibleMouse Printables Library
  • Explore water states in nature walk

Ready for Tomorrow?

Great job completing today's lesson!
