Learning Objectives

1

Understand that liquids flow and take the shape of their container

2

Demonstrate how liquids maintain a constant volume when poured

3

Develop curiosity about God's amazing design in nature

Psalm 104:24

Yahweh, how many are your works! In wisdom have you made them all. The earth is full of your creatures.

Psalm 104:24 (WEB)

Just as liquids can adapt to their containers, God's wisdom is flexible and fills all spaces in creation

📦 Materials Needed

  • Water
  • Clear glasses or containers of different shapes
  • Measuring cup
  • Science journal
  • Pencil
  • BibleMouse science recording sheet

Lesson Plan

1Opening (5 min)

Welcome to today's BibleMouse science exploration! Let's review what we learned about solids yesterday and prepare to discover the amazing world of liquids.

💭 Review Question: Can you remember how solids are different from liquids?
2Teaching (10 min)

Liquids are special because they flow and take the shape of whatever container they're in. Unlike solids, which keep their own shape, liquids move and adjust.

📌 Key Talking Points:
  • Liquids can pour and flow
  • Liquids take the shape of their container
  • Liquids keep the same amount of volume
💬 Discussion Questions:
  • What liquids do you see around our home?
  • How are liquids different from solids?
3Activity: Liquid Adventure Experiment (15 min)
hands-on exploration

Pour water into different shaped containers and observe how it changes shape

📝 Instructions:
  1. Measure exactly 1 cup of water
  2. Pour water into tall, thin container
  3. Observe how water takes container's shape
  4. Pour same water into wide, short container
  5. Notice volume stays the same
  6. Draw and record observations in science journal
🔄 Variations:

Simpler: Use only 2-3 containers

Challenge: Measure and compare exact milliliters in each container

4Closing (5 min)

Recap our liquid exploration and praise God for His wonderful design

📝 Review Questions:
  • What did we learn about liquids today?
  • How do liquids behave differently from solids?

Coming up: Tomorrow we'll explore how gases fill up space differently from liquids and solids!

Teaching Notes

📚 Background:

Liquids demonstrate fluid dynamics in a way children can easily observe

💡 Teaching Tips:
  • Use clear containers for best visibility
  • Encourage careful, slow pouring
  • Let child lead the exploration
🤔 Common Struggles:

Children might get confused about volume vs. shape

👀 Signs of Understanding:

Careful observation and curiosity about liquid behavior

Extension Activities

  • Explore other household liquids like milk or juice
  • Use BibleMouse Printables Library for additional recording sheets

Ready for Tomorrow?

Great job completing today's lesson!
