1Opening (5 min)

Explain today's summary relay game. Remind students about SWBST framework: Somebody, Wanted, But, So, Then

2Teaching (10 min)

Demonstrate how to create a team summary by taking turns adding one sentence

game

Students divide into teams to create a summary of a shared story, taking turns adding one sentence

  1. Divide class into 2-3 teams
  2. Select a shared story
  3. First team member writes first summary sentence
  4. Next team member adds another sentence
  5. Continue until complete summary is created
  6. Teams present their summaries

Simpler: Provide sentence starter prompts

Challenge: Add time limit for each sentence

Review team summaries, discuss what made some summaries stronger
