📦 Materials Needed

  • Large paper timeline

Lesson Plan

1Opening (5 min)

Gather students and introduce the concept of time through verb tenses. Ask students to share what they did yesterday, what they are doing now, and what they will do tomorrow.

💭 Review Question: Can you tell me a verb that shows something happening right now?
2Teaching (10 min)

Explain verb tenses as ways to show when an action happens: past (already done), present (happening now), future (going to happen).

📌 Key Talking Points:
  • Verbs tell us about actions
  • Tenses help us understand WHEN those actions happen
  • We can change verbs to show different times
💬 Discussion Questions:
  • What's the difference between 'I play' and 'I played'?
  • How can we tell if a verb is talking about the past or future?
3Activity: Time Traveling Verb Timeline (10 min)
hands-on

Students create a large timeline showing verb tenses with examples

📝 Instructions:
  1. Draw a long horizontal line on large paper
  2. Divide line into Past, Present, Future sections
  3. Write example verbs in each section
  4. Use different colors for each tense
  5. Include at least 3 verbs per section
🔄 Variations:

Simpler: Use pre-printed verb lists to place on timeline

Challenge: Create original sentences using different verb tenses

4Closing (5 min)

Review timeline and discuss how verbs help us understand when things happen

📝 Review Questions:
  • What are the three verb tenses?
  • Can you give an example of a verb in the past tense?
  • How do we know if a verb is in the future tense?
🙏 Prayer:

Dear God, thank You for giving us language to communicate and express when things happen. Help us learn and grow in understanding.
