“A river went out of Eden to water the garden, and from there it was parted and became four rivers.”
— Genesis 2:10 (WEB)Demonstrates God's design of rivers and their importance to early human settlements
Gather students and ask them to imagine living where water is precious. Explain that today we'll explore a special place called Mesopotamia, which means 'land between rivers'.
Mesopotamia was located between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, in an area called the Fertile Crescent. These rivers made the land rich and good for farming. God designed this special area where some of the world's first communities would grow.
Students will color and label a map of Mesopotamia, marking the Tigris and Euphrates rivers.
Simpler: Pre-mark river locations for students to color
Challenge: Add additional geographical details and research city locations
Review what we learned about Mesopotamia and its special rivers
