Lesson Plan

1Opening (3 min)

In today's BibleMouse lesson, we're going to explore a special promise God made through the prophet Jeremiah - a promise of a new way of following Him!

💭 Review Question: What did we learn about Jeremiah's job as a prophet in our last lesson?
2Teaching (8 min)

Let's talk about covenants - special promises God makes with His people. In the old covenant, people tried to follow God's rules by their own power. But God wanted something different - a close relationship where He would help people follow Him.

📌 Key Talking Points:
  • Old Covenant: Following rules on stone tablets
  • New Covenant: God writes His law on our hearts
  • Jesus makes this new covenant possible
💬 Discussion Questions:
  • What do you think it means to have God's law written on your heart?
  • How is a heart-written law different from a list of rules?
3Activity: Covenant Heart Craft (10 min)
covenant comparison

Create a visual representation of the old and new covenants

📝 Instructions:
  1. Fold paper in half
  2. On one side, draw 'stone tablet' rules
  3. On the other side, draw a heart with God's love inside
  4. Write key differences between the covenants
🔄 Variations:

Simpler: Parent helps with writing

Challenge: Add Bible verse references to each side

4Closing (3 min)

Review of the new covenant promise

📝 Review Questions:
  • What special promise did God make through Jeremiah?
  • How does Jesus help us follow God?
🙏 Prayer:

Thank God for His love and for helping us follow Him

Coming up: Tomorrow we'll learn about hope God gave through Jeremiah, even during difficult times

Jeremiah 1:5

Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.

Jeremiah 1:5 (WEB)

🎯 Activity: Covenant Heart Memorization: Create a heart-shaped card with the memory verse. Children can decorate the card and practice writing the verse, symbolizing how God writes His law on our hearts
