Learning Objectives

1

Understand that hearing Jesus' words is not enough; we must obey them

2

Identify the difference between a wise and foolish builder in Jesus' parable

3

Develop a personal commitment to apply God's teachings

Matthew 7:24-29

Everyone therefore who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on a rock.

Matthew 7:24-29 (WEB)

Demonstrates the importance of not just hearing God's word, but actively applying it in life

📦 Materials Needed

  • Bible (World English Bible)
  • Building blocks or Lego pieces
  • Sand or loose soil
  • Sturdy surface (like a table or board)
  • BibleMouse Resource Guide for Grade 3

Lesson Plan

1Opening (3 min)

Welcome to today's BibleMouse lesson! Yesterday, we learned about two different builders. Let's review what made one builder wise and the other foolish.

💭 Review Question: Can you remember what happened to the houses when the storm came?
2Teaching (8 min)

In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus tells us that listening to His words is not enough. We must put them into practice!

📌 Key Talking Points:
  • Jesus compares our life to a house we're building
  • The foundation determines how strong our 'house' will be
  • Obeying God's words is like building on a solid rock
💬 Discussion Questions:
  • What does it mean to build your life on Jesus?
  • How can we show we're listening to God's words?
3Activity: Foundation Building Challenge (10 min)
personal application

Build two structures - one on a solid surface, one on loose sand - to demonstrate the importance of a strong foundation

📝 Instructions:
  1. Use building blocks to create two identical houses
  2. Place one house on a sturdy table (rock)
  3. Place the other house on loose sand
  4. Gently shake or 'test' both structures
  5. Observe which house remains standing
🔄 Variations:

Simpler: Help child build the structures

Challenge: Let child design and build independently

4Closing (3 min)

Just like our buildings, our lives need a strong foundation in Jesus!

📝 Review Questions:
  • What did we learn about building our life?
  • How can we listen and obey God's words?
🙏 Prayer:

Dear Jesus, help us build our lives on Your words and not just hear them.

Coming up: Tomorrow, we'll learn about the Holy Spirit, the Helper Jesus promises

Matthew 7:12

Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.

Matthew 7:12 (WEB)

🎯 Activity: Golden Rule Charades: Act out ways to treat others kindly, helping children remember and embody the memory verse
