Learning Objectives

1

Understand gravity as a force that pulls objects toward the Earth

2

Predict and observe how different objects fall

3

Develop curiosity about God's natural laws

Job 28:25

He establishes the force of the wind and measures out the waters by measure.

Job 28:25 (WEB)

Demonstrates God's design of natural forces, including gravity

📦 Materials Needed

  • Various small objects (feather, rock, paper, pencil)
  • Drop cloth or clear floor space
  • Recording sheet
  • Pencil
  • BibleMouse Science Journal

Lesson Plan

1Opening (3 min)

Welcome to today's BibleMouse science adventure! Last time we learned about pushes and pulls, and today we'll explore a special kind of pull called gravity.

💭 Review Question: Can you remember what a force is?
2Teaching (10 min)

Gravity is a special force that always pulls things down toward the Earth. Just like God keeps everything in its place, gravity helps keep things from floating away!

📌 Key Talking Points:
  • Gravity pulls everything toward the center of the Earth
  • All objects fall at the same speed (in a vacuum)
  • Gravity works everywhere on our planet
💬 Discussion Questions:
  • What would happen if there was no gravity?
  • Can you think of things that fall?
3Activity: Gravity Drop Challenge (12 min)
investigation

Test how different objects fall using the BibleMouse investigation method

📝 Instructions:
  1. Gather different objects from around the room
  2. Hold objects at the same height
  3. Drop them and observe what happens
  4. Record your observations in your BibleMouse Science Journal
🔄 Variations:

Simpler: Drop objects one at a time and watch carefully

Challenge: Try dropping objects from different heights and compare

4Closing (3 min)

Review what we learned about gravity today

📝 Review Questions:
  • What is gravity?
  • What did you notice when you dropped different objects?

Coming up: Tomorrow we'll explore how friction slows things down!

Teaching Notes

📚 Background:

Gravity is a fundamental force that can be challenging for young learners to understand

💡 Teaching Tips:
  • Use simple language
  • Demonstrate with multiple examples
  • Encourage curiosity and observation
🤔 Common Struggles:

Children might not understand why objects fall differently due to air resistance

👀 Signs of Understanding:

Child's ability to predict and observe object falls

Extension Activities

  • Create a gravity art project using falling paint or water droplets
  • Watch a simple video about gravity from the BibleMouse Resource Guide

Ready for Tomorrow?

Great job completing today's lesson!
