Learning Objectives

1

Understand that matter can change states back and forth

2

Demonstrate knowledge of state changes through observation

3

Appreciate God's incredible design in how matter works

Ecclesiastes 3:1

For everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven.

Ecclesiastes 3:1 (WEB)

Just as matter can change states, God has designed seasons and times for different purposes in our lives

📦 Materials Needed

  • ice cubes
  • hot plate or heat source
  • thermometer
  • clear glass
  • observation journal
  • safety goggles
  • BibleMouse Science Observation Worksheet

Lesson Plan

1Opening (3 min)

Welcome to today's BibleMouse science adventure! Let's review what we've learned about changing states of matter.

💭 Review Question: Can you remember how water changed from solid to liquid in our last experiment?
2Teaching (10 min)

Today we'll explore how matter can change back and forth between different states - just like God designed it to be flexible and wonderful!

📌 Key Talking Points:
  • Solids can melt into liquids
  • Liquids can freeze into solids
  • Liquids can evaporate into gases
  • Gases can condense back into liquids
💬 Discussion Questions:
  • What changes have we seen this week?
  • How do you think temperature affects these changes?
3Activity: State Change Detective (12 min)
review

Observe ice cubes melting and then refreezing, recording observations in BibleMouse Science Journal

📝 Instructions:
  1. Put on safety goggles
  2. Place ice cube on a plate
  3. Watch and time how long it takes to melt
  4. Measure temperature at different stages
  5. Refreeze melted water by placing in freezer
  6. Draw and describe what you see
🔄 Variations:

Simpler: Just observe melting with parent help

Challenge: Record precise temperatures and times

4Closing (3 min)

Reflect on how amazing God's design of matter is!

📝 Review Questions:
  • What state changes did we see today?
  • Can you explain how water can change back and forth?

Coming up: Tomorrow we'll learn about temperature and how it affects matter

Teaching Notes

📚 Background:

Children are developing understanding of how matter transforms
