Learning Objectives

1

Understand that evaporation changes liquid water to water vapor (gas)

2

Observe and record how different factors affect evaporation rate

3

Develop curiosity about God's amazing world of scientific changes

Job 36:27-28

For he draws up the drops of water, which distill as rain from his vapor, which the skies pour down and drop on man abundantly.

Job 36:27-28 (WEB)

This verse beautifully describes the water cycle, highlighting how water changes states through God's natural processes of evaporation and condensation

📦 Materials Needed

  • 3 clear glasses or jars
  • Water
  • Thermometer
  • Observation journal
  • Pencil
  • Sunny windowsill or warm area
  • Fan (optional)

Lesson Plan

1Opening (3 min)

Welcome to today's BibleMouse science adventure! Yesterday, we learned how water changes from solid to liquid. Today, we'll explore how water becomes invisible vapor!

💭 Review Question: Can you remember how ice turned into water when we heated it?
2Teaching (10 min)

Evaporation is a magical process where liquid water turns into invisible water vapor. It happens all around us - when puddles dry up, when clothes dry on a line, or when water in a pot disappears!

📌 Key Talking Points:
  • Water can change from liquid to gas without boiling
  • Heat and wind can make evaporation happen faster
  • God designed water to move and change in amazing ways
💬 Discussion Questions:
  • Where have you seen water disappear?
  • What might make water evaporate more quickly?
3Activity: Evaporation Race (12 min)
experiment

Set up three glasses of water in different conditions to see how quickly they evaporate

📝 Instructions:
  1. Fill three identical glasses with the same amount of water
  2. Place one glass in a sunny window
  3. Place one glass near a fan
  4. Place one glass in a cooler, darker spot
  5. Mark water level on each glass
  6. Check and measure water level every few hours
  7. Record observations in your BibleMouse science journal
🔄 Variations:

Simpler: Just use two glasses - one in sun, one in shade

Challenge: Add a fourth glass with salt water to compare evaporation rates

4Closing (3 min)

Let's review our amazing water transformation discoveries!

📝 Review Questions:
  • What happens to water during evaporation?
  • What helps water turn into vapor more quickly?

Coming up: Tomorrow, we'll see how vapor turns back into liquid through condensation!

Teaching Notes

📚 Background:

Evaporation is a key part of the water cycle that demonstrates matter's incredible ability to change states

💡 Teaching Tips:
  • Encourage careful observation
  • Let child lead the experiment with your guidance
  • Use this as an opportunity to marvel at God's intricate design
🤔 Common Struggles:

Children might get impatient waiting for water to evaporate - help them understand scientific observation takes time

👀 Signs of Understanding:

Child's ability to predict and explain changes in water level

Extension Activities

  • Create a water cycle poster using BibleMouse Printables Library
  • Sing a water cycle song from BibleMouse Song Collection
  • Read a science book about water from BibleMouse Read-Aloud Library

Ready for Tomorrow?

Great job completing today's lesson!
