Lesson Plan

1Opening (5 min)

Welcome to today's BibleMouse science adventure! Last week we explored how animals have special body coverings. Today, we'll discover how some animals travel incredible distances to survive.

💭 Review Question: Can you remember an animal adaptation we learned about last week?
2Teaching (10 min)

Migration is how some animals travel long distances to find food, stay safe, or have babies. Just like God guides us, He gives animals special abilities to travel.

📌 Key Talking Points:
  • Monarch butterflies travel thousands of miles
  • Arctic terns fly from the North to South Pole each year
  • Some birds fly over oceans without stopping
💬 Discussion Questions:
  • Why do you think animals need to migrate?
  • How do you think they know where to go?
3Activity: Migration Route Trackers (12 min)
mapping

Use the BibleMouse migration map to trace routes of different animals

📝 Instructions:
  1. Choose a bird or butterfly migration route
  2. Use colored markers to trace the path
  3. Measure approximate distance traveled
  4. Draw small pictures of the animals at start and end points
🔄 Variations:

Simpler: Trace pre-drawn routes with parent help

Challenge: Research and create your own migration route map

4Closing (3 min)

Reflect on how amazing God's creation is, giving animals special abilities to survive and travel

📝 Review Questions:
  • What animal did you learn about today?
  • How far did your animal travel?

Coming up: Tomorrow we'll explore how some animals hibernate during winter!
