Learning Objectives

1

Trace the path of water from mountains through rivers to oceans

2

Create a simple water pathway map

3

Understand God's design for water movement in nature

Ecclesiastes 1:7

All the rivers run into the sea, yet the sea is not full. To the place where the rivers flow, there they flow again.

Ecclesiastes 1:7 (WEB)

Perfectly illustrates the natural water cycle and God's intentional design for water movement

📦 Materials Needed

  • Blue construction paper
  • White crayon or chalk
  • Pencil
  • Water pathway diagram from BibleMouse Resource Guide
  • Scissors
  • Glue stick

Lesson Plan

1Opening (3 min)

Recall yesterday's lesson about groundwater. Ask: 'Where does the water go after it moves underground?'

💭 Review Question: Can you remember how water moves through the ground?
2Teaching (10 min)

Explain how water travels from mountains through rivers to oceans

📌 Key Talking Points:
  • Water starts high in mountains as snow or rain
  • Flows down through streams and rivers
  • Eventually reaches the large ocean basins
💬 Discussion Questions:
  • What do you think helps water move downhill?
  • Why do rivers always seem to flow toward the ocean?
3Activity: BibleMouse Water Journey Map (12 min)
mapping

Create a visual map showing water's journey from mountains to ocean

📝 Instructions:
  1. Draw mountain peaks at top of blue paper
  2. Use white crayon to draw river paths
  3. Add ocean at bottom of page
  4. Label different water locations
  5. Optional: Cut out and paste small paper 'water drops'
🔄 Variations:

Simpler: Parent helps draw main features

Challenge: Add more detailed geographic features like lakes and tributaries

4Closing (3 min)

Review water's journey and read Ecclesiastes 1:7 together

📝 Review Questions:
  • Where does water start its journey?
  • Where does water end up?

Coming up: Tomorrow we'll review everything we've learned about the water cycle

Teaching Notes

📚 Background:

Water naturally moves from higher to lower elevations due to gravity

💡 Teaching Tips:
  • Use simple, clear language
  • Encourage child's curiosity about water movement
  • Connect scientific observation to God's wonderful design
🤔 Common Struggles:

Children might find it hard to understand water's continuous movement

👀 Signs of Understanding:

Child's ability to trace water's path and understand basic flow concept

Extension Activities

  • Watch BibleMouse water cycle video from Resource Guide
  • Take a nature walk to observe local streams or rivers
