Gather students in a circle. Review previous syllable types using hand motions: closed fist for closed syllables, open hands for open syllables, make a 'magic e' wave for VCe syllables.
Quick review of syllable types: closed syllables have a vowel followed by a consonant (cat), open syllables end with a vowel sound (go), VCe syllables have a silent e that makes the first vowel say its name (cake).
Students will sort word cards into three categories: closed, open, and VCe syllables. First team to correctly sort all cards wins!
