Gather students in a circle and explain that today we're going to learn about special word families called 'closed syllables'.
A closed syllable is a word part that ends with a consonant and has a short vowel sound. Words like 'cat', 'win', and 'hop' are closed syllables.
Students will create syllable cards and sort them by their sounds.
